A surprise coming out of the auto industry. Porsche announced that they will start making the 918 Spyder concept.
As expected, the Porsche supervisory board has approved the development of the 918 Spyder concept into a series production model. The 918 debuted as a concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show with a plug-in hybrid powertrain claimed to provide 78 miles per gallon.

The Mercedes-Benz F800, which runs on gas, electricity, and hydrogen, is clearly the right pathway of future automobiles. The F800 hybrid will combine a traditional gasoline engine using direct-injection technology with a hybrid module, which can be powered up by simply plugging into a charging station. The Quaranta concept was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Italdesign Giugiaro, and features the Lexus RX400h’s mid-mounted hybrid 3.3-liter V6 powerplant driving all four wheels through a CVT and supported by a solar panel on the nose.

Audi, The German automaker is apparently looking to design a smaller modular platform, called the R4, leveraging the expertise it used to develop the front-engine sedan platform that underpins the new A8 and forthcoming A7, among others. The production model is likely to be available with either an electric motor or conventional internal-combustion four-cylinder variants. This fancy beast of a sports car will probably start out at a low-$30,000 range… not to shabby eh? More images after the break:

An actual realistic concept? Go figure… Presented at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, the BMW Concept Gran Coupé is a four-door coupé that incorporates the classic design features of all BMW coupes: the long wheelbase, the vaulted hood with forward-pointing lines, the set-back greenhouse, the flat silhouette, the coupe-style roof line and the short front overhang reflect the dynamic potential of the vehicle.

Porsche just released a video showing the new 918 Spyder concept, its new 918 Spyder is a mid-engined sports car with plug-in hybrid, powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (on the front and rear axle) producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW. It can reach 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, a top-end speed of 198 mph. The best past about it is that Porsche says it can also achieve 78 miles per gallon and emit just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The German sports car maker Porsche will unveil the most powerful version of the 911 Turbo in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The 2011 911 Turbo S Coupe and Cabriolet will be available in May, 2010 with an MSRP of $159,100 and $170,200 respectively.
The 911 Turbo S comes with an increase of 30 HP, for a total of 530 HP, thanks to a six cylinder boxer boosted by a pair of turbochargers complete with Porsche’s variable turbine geometry that reduces lag and increases performance. As a result the Turbo S will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.3 seconds and go from 0 to 200 km/h (124 MPH) in only 10.8 seconds and will reach a top speed of 195 MPH.

The Tokyo Motor Show is coming up in the next few weeks and here is a complete preview of the new and very adorable Honda EV-N. It’s a retro-styled battery-powered car with a face of a pug puppy crossed with a Trabant and nifty concept-y features like swappable seat fabrics, a solar roof, and a “communications system” embedded in the black front fascia. Rolls-Royce has finally dropped some pictures and information on the 2011 Ghost. The luxury car comes with 6.6-liter V12 that generates an impressive 575 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rpm, along with 563 horsepower in U.S. trim. The 212.6-inch body stretches over a 129.7 inch long wheelbase, and the whole car weighs in at 5,445 pounds unloaded. Additional pictures after the jump:

Pictures have been released of Maranello’s latest wondercar, the Ferrari 458 Italia, and all we have to say is rawr. Although the overall looks are stunning, we don’t have the opportunity to get an up-close view of the car until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
